Thellusson Way – Extension

Mr and Mrs Wodzicki wanted a bigger family home and decided that building a double storey extension was more affordable and convenient than moving house.

Especially as one of the sons was in the middle of his GCSE’s so moving would have been disruptive. We worked with the client for almost 2 years prior to the build to ensure they got exactly what they wanted. An important factor to the build was that they wanted a luxury open plan kitchen with big Bi-folding doors leading out to a decked area. We also ended up renovating the entire house finishing right through and painted.

To achieve this we had to demolish the old garage that was on the side of the house to make way for the 12m x 4.5m building. The upper floor consists of 2 pitched roof dormers, one for the new family bathroom and one for the new bedroom. We also came up with the idea of building a crown roof in order to allow for more space than a conventional apex roof would have given. This also allowed for us to give the bedroom some quirky characteristics by adding a high vaulted ceiling opposed to a standard flat ceiling. 

The downstairs originally only had a tiny kitchen before we started but we knocked through into the adjacent dining room and knocked through into the new extension to achieve a huge open plan kitchen/diner. Then we created the opening at the back of the house for the new bi-folding doors which led out to the new decking that we installed. We also added a new utility room to the front of the new extension.
